1 Various ancient tales about Virochana are illustrated in the Vedas and other Hindu scriptures. Here, he is described as a Daitya, who was the father of the King Mahabali.
2 In the Atharvaveda, he was mentioned as the grandson of King Hiranyakashipu and the son of Prahlada - the saintly king, who is respected as a great devotee of Lord Vishnu.
3 As per the legend specified in Chandogya Upanishad, once Virochana and Indra had together visited the Lord Prajapati.
4 There, they practiced Brahmacharya for thirty-two years and learned about the Atman (inner self).
5 Both were taught their divinity, however, Virochana misunderstood Prajapati's teaching and misguided the Asuras to worship the Sharira (body) instead.
6 According to Vishnu Purana, he was an obedient son and was preached by his father from a very young age.
7 Under Prahlada’s influence, Virochana became a great follower of Lord Vishnu like his father. He believed that Lord Vishnu was the only god which made the other gods angry.
8 Indra and the demigods were responsible for the death of Virochana and his wife by taking advantage of his father’s generosity.
9 After Virochana, Prahlada raised his grandson, Bali and crowned him as the king of the sacred kingdom.
